7 Lessons I’ve Learned From Loss

Sometimes, I feel like the Grim Reaper. I’ve been present for the death of six family members: three godparents, my mami and abuela, and a close friend.

Every time, I find myself going into “fixer mode” — a coping mechanism where I immerse myself in practical tasks and logistics to avoid facing my emotions. I’ve organized funerals, managed estates and taken care of the needs of the bereaved.
